Hesse

Hesse is a federal state of Germany with 21,114.94 m² it is only 6% of Germany. It has 6,070,425 inhabitants: about 7 % of the total German population. The Hessian people speak a funny dialect.
Hesse is situated in western-central Germany. It borders on North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The state capital is Wiesbaden. Hesses’ largest city is Frankfurt am Main.Another important city of Hesse is Hanau, because the Brothers Grimm were born there in 1785 and 1786.
The most important rivers in Hesse are the Fulda and the Eder in the north, the Lahn in the central part of Hesse and the Main and the Rhine in the south.
Furthermore it has lots of important mountain ranges, like the Rhön, the Westerwald, the Taunus, the Vogelsberg, the Knüll or the Spessart.
At the election to Landtag on the 2nd February, the CDU (Christian-Democratic-Union) received the absolute maynotrity in the parliament for the first time.
In Hesse most of the inhabitants (41.3 %) are Protestant. 25.6 % of the habitants are roman Catholic and the rest have no confession or are a part of other
religion communities.
Hesse has lots of sights. One of them is the “Hohe Dom zu Fulda”. It is an old cathedral built by Wynfreth Bonifatius between 791 and 819.
